Ecumenical Links
As member churches of the Reading and Silchester Methodist Circuit we have long-standing links with ecumenical partner churches. To the north of Caversham lies the village of Woodcote, where there was once a Methodist Chapel. The Anglican church in the village, St Leonard’s, made us very welcome, and for many years there has been a tradition of Methodist participation in leading worship. Once a month, usually but not invariably on the second Sunday, worship is led jointly by an Anglican preacher (usually the Team Vicar, Revd Linda Smith) and a Methodist preacher (usually one of our own ministry team). Caversham Park Village is a 1970’s development which has now matured. Part of that community is an ecumenical congregation linking Anglican, URC, Methodist and Baptist traditions. Methodists play a part in leading a weekly House Communion, as well as participating in the Church Council and leading Sunday worship about four times a year. One of our own ministry team, Revd Dr John Ogden, has a long-standing link with St Mary’s Henley. He is a regular visiting preacher there. Besides being part of the Methodist Circuit we are member churches of Churches Together in Caversham.
